Install Scriptorium
Scriptorium is a desktop application for macOS, Windows, and Linux. One purchase covers all three platforms.
Download and install
Section titled “Download and install”- Go to the download page and grab the installer for your operating system.
- Open the installer and follow the standard steps for your platform:
- macOS — open the
.dmgand drag Scriptorium into your Applications folder. - Windows — run the installer and follow the prompts.
- Linux — use the provided package for your distribution.

- Launch Scriptorium.
Create your account
Section titled “Create your account”The first time you open Scriptorium you’ll be asked to sign in or create an account.
- Choose Sign up and enter your email address and a password.
- Sign in with those credentials.
Your account exists only to manage your license. Your manuscripts, notes, and everything you write are stored on your computer, never on our servers — see Where your data lives.
Your free trial
Section titled “Your free trial”Signing up starts a 14-day free trial with full access to every feature. No credit card is required.
When the trial ends:
- Your projects stay on your device — nothing is deleted.
- The app switches to read-only mode: you can open and read everything, but editing is disabled until you purchase a license.
- Buying Scriptorium is a one-time purchase — lifetime access, free updates, no subscription. See the pricing page.
Purchasing a license
Section titled “Purchasing a license”- Click the upgrade prompt in the app (or go to the pricing page).
- Checkout opens in your default web browser.
- Complete the payment. Scriptorium detects the confirmation automatically and unlocks within a few seconds — no restart needed.
Do I need an internet connection?
Section titled “Do I need an internet connection?”Only for three things:
- Signing in to your account
- Downloading app updates
- Installing optional AI models
Once you’re set up, Scriptorium works entirely offline.
