Custom Calendars

Not every story runs on the Gregorian calendar. Scriptorium lets you define the calendar your world actually uses — its months, weekdays, eras, even the length of its days — and everything date-related follows along.

Every project starts on the Gregorian calendar — the real-world one, with its usual months, weekdays and leap years. If that is the calendar your story runs on, there is nothing to set up.

To use anything else, open Project Settings → Calendar and build it.

Everything is configurable:

  • Months — names, day counts, and leap-year rules
  • Weekdays — names and cycle length (six-day weeks? ten-day weeks? fine)
  • Eras — named eras counting forward or backward (e.g. “Before the Fall” / “After the Fall”), each with its own start
  • Time itself — hours per day and minutes per hour
  • Epoch weekday — which weekday day 1 falls on
  • Display formats — how dates are written throughout the app (four configurable format strings)
  • Timeline end day — an optional upper bound for your world’s history
  • Timelines — the axis, header labels, and all date math use the active calendar
  • Date pickers — entity date fields render a calendar-aware grid with your months and weekdays
  • Entity dates — birth/death, founded/destroyed, and any other date fields
